Caleb Owoko, Illustrated truth

Initially exposed to the stereotypical career options, Caleb wanted to study law after he finished high school but enjoyed being creative when no one was looking. With so much excitement and enthusiasm his brother would go find Caleb’s drawings and art works to show to guests whenever they would come visit. This encouraged Caleb and gave him the confidence to make the nerve wrecking yet idyllic life changing decision of becoming an artist.

Caleb, known as Cale, specializes in caricatures and cartoon illustrations heavily inspired by comic books that he loved to read when he was younger. The cartoons and illustrations that he does are mostly a representation of what he sees in his day to day life and use the characters to visually communicate untold stories around sensitive topics to readers across all age groups. Currently, he designs and draws book illustrations and book cover designs for publishing companies while working on publishing a comic book that he and two of his friends have been working on.

He has exhibited in Alliance Francaise and sarit centre and hopes for a future where there will be more opportunities for Caricature and cartoon artists in Kenya to grow and pursue their dreams.
